Each family system is unique and has its own style of communication and structure. Our family plays a significant role in our life, shaping us emotionally, physically, and behaviorally. At Mindful BK, we like to think of the family as a system made up of individual family members. All families are connected by the individual members in some form, which means each individual family member’s actions and emotions impact the other members.
Changes with one family member can cause changes to the lives of the other family members. When one member hurts, the whole family hurts. When these changes and wounds have a significant impact on the entire family, it can take the entire family to grow and heal.
When beginning family therapy at Mindful BK, we’ll start by helping your family understand how the family system functions and how individual family members relate to each other. We’ll support you in recognizing unhelpful communication patterns and how they disrupt the functioning of the family system. Through facilitating productive dialogues, the family can work together to make changes and choices that improve the quality of the familial relationships.
